ICFF

Sore feet. Very sore feet. But saw some great stuff today. Herman Miller launched their new EAG chairs – new old design actually. The chairs were designed by Ray and Charles Eames for the house Saarinen built for the Miller’s in Columbus, Indiana. Amazing house. And the Aluminum Group chairs are perfect for it. They look amazing all in black. Also admired Molo’s cool little Cappello lights and of course, Tom Dixon wins for best show bag (not to mentions sexiest pendant lights. I love his stuff). I’ll be back at the Herman Miller booth tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day. See you there. From the Molo website on the Cappello lamp – too tired to rewrite it but it’s a great story and makes me love the little lamp even more. “The marble base is a special little artifact of design history as it is formed in the process of making the marble block-shaped base for “Arco”, the iconic floor lamp designed by the Castiglioni brothers (in 1962) and manufactured by …

The Miller House

I flew into Indianapolis this morning at the ungodly hour of 5.30am. In fact they were early so it was 5.15am. We’d boarded at 10.30pm LA time. I had around 3 hours of sleep before landing. Hell. Anyways. It was worth it once I got to the Miller House today. You can read about it over on Lifework. Couldn’t resist posting a few pics though. Such a stunning house. Look out for more…

ICFF: Artek

We’ve got our eye on a pair of Artek chairs for the new house…right now it’s just as eye an there is no way our wallets will stretch that far. Looks like they’ve paired with Missoni here. Will have to check out their stand at ICFF.

ICFF: Preview

At the end of next week I will be in NY attending ICFF. Keen to see all the new work. ICFF is always fun. I’m a big fan of Amy Helfand’s rugs and was sad to hear she wont be at the hall but you can visit her studio to check out her new spring collection. Find directions to her Red Hook studio on her blog.

The Miller House, Eames and Saarinen

I love this shot of Charles Eames (designer with his wife Ray of countless pieces of furniture and various buildings) and his friend Eero Saarinen (also designer of countless pieces including our Womb Chair – or should I say Brian’s Womb Chair.) I’m off to Columbus, Indiana next week to see  the Miller House first hand. It was recently acquired by the IMA and is now open to the public. The Eameses designed the Aluminum Group chairs as outdoor furniture for this house and Alexander Girard did the interiors. Saarinen designed the house and Dan Kiley (who I am not familiar with) did the landscape architecture. Amazing group of people. Amazing looking house. Can’t wait to see it in the flesh.
